The Li-Ke Yong Memorial Library celebrated its first anniversary on August 2nd (Friday). Although it went through a lot of ups and downs, the library was able to come to fruition. In order to show appreciation to visitors for their patronage over the past one year, the library has organized a series of anniversary events and turn it into an elegant and romantic café music library. The library also hosted a popular magic bubble show with magic, clown, and balloon performances. A private tour with an architect was also planned as part of the weekend celebration.

According to Kaohsiung Public Library, construction of the Li-Ke Yong Memorial Library took five years to complete, and it is the one and only park library in Kaohsiung. Since its opening on August 2, 2018, the number of visitors has constantly reached record high. Currently, the highest number of visitors in a single day is 2,788, and over 370,000 visitors have already visited the library so far. The library is also one of the top libraries in the city to promote reading and many visitors came all the way from Zuoying District and Siaogang District. This shows that the library meets the needs of local and nearby residents. The Li Ke-Yong Memorial Library is also the only Kaohsiung Public Library featuring the popular “fusional toys,” which have been borrowed by more than 3,000 people.

On the evening of August 2nd, a quartet concert took place at the Children Reading Area on the basement floor of the library. Young musicians from the United States, Europe, and Taiwan performed a series of classical music performances. Through vivid narration by violinist Lin Chang-long, visitors could feel the sentiments expressed by the instruments, as if the music was bringing them closer to the library.

During the anniversary celebration events between August 2nd and 4th, the library partnered with coffee experts from the Literary Museum. Barista Chen Yi-yang was the champion from the 2017 Fengjen International Coffee Roasting & Brewing Competition, and to celebrate the first anniversary of the library, Mr. Chen brewed a special “cold brew coffee” mimicking the shape of a whiskey bottle. The library offers a relaxing and comfortable environment, and many visitors mentioned that the library felt like a café. This time, we turn the library into a café, and there were many visitors waiting in line to sample the coffee regardless of their age.

Furthermore, to allow our visitors to understand more about the concept behind the design of the library and its construction method, the architect in charge of constructing the library Mr. Chen Chih-jing was invited to give visitors a private tour, which was fully booked in a short time. The library also invited the champion of a magic competition Ace and his team to provide a magic show. Clowns were there to offer balloons to children as well. Many children enjoyed the magic show, and each one of them received a magic tool for them to perform their own magic show at home. All in all, everyone had a fun and pleasant weekend at the Li Ke-yong Memorial Library.
