In November 2014 the new main library of the Kaohsiung Public Library will be completed. It is designed to be “a conducive reading environment amongst books and trees,” emphasizing the desire to break down people’s traditional image of public libraries and transform it into a green book, a free library, a cultural landmark, a friendly environment, and an excellent place for reading. This innovative thinking and use of space coincides with the popular “flipped classroom” concept. As such, this forum has been named “The Flipped Libraries.” We invite public libraries that have made innovative strides in space design and service planning from the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia to join us in southern Taiwan, with the hope that through sharing experiences and benchmark learning the library sector in Taiwan can achieve continued and quality development.
