Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Harbor City, Rotary District 3510 R. I., made a contribution to the society. At the beginning of the new year, it raised funds for Lee Ko-Yung Memorial Library to purchase a total of 780 new books on ecological conservation to enrich the collection of the community library. SDG Goal 4 is to "ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all." Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Harbor City donated themed books through fundraising, and cooperated with Kaohsiung Public Library (KPL) to achieve the sustainable development goals of the United Nations to cultivate a new generation of global citizens.

On the day of the donation (1/12), District 3510 R. I. Director Wu Tai-chang, Assistant Director Lu Guo-guan, Secretary General Mao Guo-hui, and Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Harbor City President Lin Han-qing and Secretary General Zhang Qing-zhong were hosting the donation ceremony at Ecological Conservationon Collection Area on the first floor of Kaohsiung Lee Ko-Yung Memorial Library, holding signs "Net Zero Reading/ Zero Carbon Emission," "Ecological Conservation/ Environmental Sustainability," "Climate Change/ Circular Economy,""Net Zero Carbon Neutral/ Negative Emissions," which symbolize one of the seven foci of Rotary International: water and sanitation issues, and echo the trends of the international community in recent years: climate change, carbon neutrality, net zero emissions, sustainable investment, circular economy, and other issues.

In 2015, the United Nations proposed 17 "2030 Sustainable Development Goals" (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs), hoping that the world can work together to move towards a sustainable life. Libraries are regarded as important institutions to implement the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. In the past few years, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) has been actively involved in the process of creating the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." KPL is also one of the IFLA members, so in 2022, the main library hosted the book exhibition "SDGs Sustainable Development Keep Going." 138 kinds of books were selected by the librarians for readers to borrow. With the donated new books from Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Harbor City on sustainable environmental and ecological conservation, the cross-domain integration, internationalization, and globalization can facilitate the development of sustainable education in reading.

Lin Yi-cheng, acting director of Kaohsiung Public Library, said "Kaohsiung Public Library which acts as a sharer of social knowledge and international vision provides readers with the latest international universal values and knowledge trends." Kaohsiung Li Ke-yong Memorial Library Branch is a forest library located in the Central Park of Qianjin District. It often offers interesting hand-made experiences and reading workshops with its special collections of books, such as ecological conservation and parent-child education books. Thanks to Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Harbor City, the library can play an active role in achieving sustainable development goals.

The theme of 2022-2023 Rotary District 3510 R. I. is "Imagine Rotary," emphasizing that through book donation, Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Harbor City will encourage more library readers to follow the latest trends in international environmental protection issues and further apply the practices of environmental sustainability.
