To celebrate Children's Day, Kaohsiung Public Library (KPL) and National Science and Technology Museum (NSTM) jointly created a special exhibition "Memories of Childhood: Southern Children's Party," for babies to 6th graders. This exhibition displays the customs and traditional cuisines of Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. Children can learn about the customs and traditional food of each country. From the exhibition and reading activities, children can understand each country's customs and scientific significance in them. The exhibition period is from now until June 25 in the intertidal zone on the 4th floor of Kaohsiung Public Library.

Lin Yi-cheng, acting director of Kaohsiung Public Library, said that there are more than 20,000 new immigrants in Kaohsiung City from Southeast Asian countries, and most of them have integrated into the life of Taiwan. It is an important cultural education for children to know the culture of these new residents' home countries. Kaohsiung Public Library cooperated with National Science and Technology Museum for this special exhibition to introduce the customs and culture of Southeast Asian countries in both static and dynamic ways. Through experience activities and guided tours in English, it is to promote Kaohsiung's English-friendly environment and show Kaohsiung's multicultural diversity. There is also a small book fair in this special exhibition. It displays nearly a hundred books about Southeast Asia for the children of new immigrants to have more opportunities to know their parents' hometown or relieve their homesickness. The social goals of this special exhibition are to show respect for diversity, appreciate differences, and achieve harmony and prosperity. This will help the public to understand the cultures of the new residents' countries from multiple perspectives.

Three major themes of this special exhibition were co-planned by the two museums, including the stories and legends, traditional snacks, spices, food, and different life rituals and growth customs at different stages from the five Southeast Asian countries. The special exhibition combined the strengths of the two museums. In addition to the model display, National Science and Technology Museum also offered electronic interactive games and exhibits. Kaohsiung Public Library selected books based on the themes of Southeast Asian history and culture, spices and food, and legendary picture books.

Kaohsiung Public Library also announced that April 23 is World Book Day, so it will provide diverse reading, bilingual lectures, and workshops to establish the library's role in language learning and cultural empowerment. From now on, "Dark Dream Mirror has awakened. Run!" has begun. The theme book fair will be exhibited on the 3rd floor of the main building. The parent-child grass reading party will take place on 4/1 and there will also be some market activities. The public is welcome to participate.
