The Kaohsiung Public Library Caoya Branch won the "2022 Great Elderly Award" from Health Promotion Administration, the Ministry of Health and Welfare for its theme library of elderly care. It is also the first public library to earn this award. This honor also extends to other branches. Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), Yuh-Ing Junior College of Health Care and Management (YIJC), and Kaohsiung Public Library (KPL) signed an MOU yesterday to jointly operate a multi-faceted service of "Reading & Exercising for All Ages" with the special collection of "Life and Health" in the Sanmin branch, which offers readers fun experience of reading and exercising.

In the MOU signing ceremony, the elders and children experienced the fun of reading and exercising. Mr. Yang Junming is the honorary chairman of Junior College of Health Care and Management. His mother, Ms. Yang Chenguiying, was specially invited to demonstrate how to play croquet. This 97-year-old mother hit three balls, with a hit rate of 100%. Her super physical coordination and eyesight won applause and cheers from the audience.

Lin Yicheng, acting director of Kaohsiung Public Library emphasized that creating a healthy and energetic atmosphere has always been the goal of the Sanmin branch library. The resources of all parties are linked with a focus on "health, ecology, living, and life." Kaohsiung Public Library appreciates this cooperation with Yuh-Ing Junior College of Health Care and Management and Kaohsiung Medical University. With the shared teaching and medical resources, a series of courses were planned to meet the needs of readers of all ages' physical and mental health and feel the pleasure of reading and exercising.

Yang Junyu, president of Kaohsiung Medical University, said that the school and the Sanmin Branch Library are old neighbors. In the past, the two parties only worked together on health lectures and consultations. In the future, some teaching fields will be moved to the library. In addition to courses, students can directly serve readers from different age groups.  Hou Mingfeng, chairman of Yuh-Ing Junior College of Health Care and Management, said that Sanmin Park, the newspaper reading area of the library, workshop classroom, and the small theater are the best places for the students' internship. This cooperation with the cross-domain professions, resources, and the local community will give young and old readers the most suitable and exclusive service in the most familiar environment.

Chen Jianzhi, chairman of Kaohsiung Medical University, and Yang Junming, honorary chairman of Yuh-Ing Junior College of Health Care and Management, supported "Hyread.com" and "Life and Health" websites respectively, which combine the resources of the two schools to enhance the features of the Sanmin branch library, and created the "Reading & Exercising for All Ages" area to meet the reading needs of elementary school children and the elderly. In addition, it also brings the internship services of Kaohsiung Medical University, Yuh-Ing Junior College of Health Care and Management, and hospital medical consultation and lectures into the library to offer age-specific, socially integrated, and diversified services.

A number of senior citizens and children came to read together and experienced the pleasure of reading and exercising. Everyone happily said "In the future, I will come to Sanmin Library to read books and do sports more often. It gave us a feeling of joy and invigoration!"  97-year-old Yang Chenguiying said with a smile "A rich life is not material enjoyment, but knowledge and health." Therefore, it is more important for the elders to learn, live, and exercise.  Yang Jianeng, on behalf of Yuh-Ing Junior College of Health Care and Management, donated funds to support Hyread.com area in Caoya and Sanmin library branches to provide extracurricular reading for elementary school children. It can be said to be the best gift for Mother's Day.

After the signing ceremony, Chen Jianzhi, chairman of Kaohsiung Medical University, stood in front of the gate and stared at the library building. He said that Kaohsiung Medical University and Sanmin library branch have been neighbors for so long, but they have ignored this hidden library in the park. He was surprised that the library provides so many diverse and rich reading services. In the future, source sharing should be strengthened.

Sanmin Library Branch is located in Sanmin Park, a beautiful and quiet environment. It has been established for 40 years, and the surrounding community belongs to the early Kaohsiung shopping disctrict. It is adjacent to the schools which have a long history, including Kaohsiung Medical University, Municipal Sanmin Junior High School, Kaohsiung Municipal Boai Elementary School, and Aiguo Elementary School. Considering the geographical relationship and population structure, the collection of the library mainly focuses on "Life and Health" books.
