The "2023 Kaohsiung Reading Festival" will be held from November 11th to November 28th. This year's theme is "Reading Kaohsiung, Reading the World." Unveiled today (November 28th), the main visual of the 2023 reading festival is designed by famous graphic designer Liao Jyunyu (廖俊裕, aka, Godkidlla), which echoes this year's Kaohsiung urban reading imagery. The "2023 Kaohsiung Reading Festival " meets with the public on the three main themes of "Gateway to the World," "Multiple Forms of Reading," and " Posing Questions to the World through Reading." These activities will be open for application from October 30th onwards, and the public is welcome to register for their favorite activities.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-Mai said that reading brings us closer to the world and to realize cultural equality, thereby Kaohsiung has been working hard to promote reading. 2022 marked the first year of the Kaohsiung Reading Festival, and the brand-new cultural concept of "Library on the Left and Bookstore on the Right" (左圖右書) connects libraries and bookstores and gives the public a broader and better reading imagination. In 2023, Kaohsiung continues to host the reading festival and look towards the world by organizing the Kaohsiung World Poetry Festival, which was last held 18 years ago. Furthermore, to present the reading festival with the local Kaohsiung style, renowned locals in various fields have been invited to navigate the city and locate Kaohsiung in the vast sea of knowledge. We hope to showcase the rich reading culture of Kaohsiung, as well as to help readers find the strength of their hearts and minds.

Wang, Wen-Tsui (王文翠), Director of the Bureau of Cultural Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of KPL, said that knowledge is like the vastness of the universe, and the "Kaohsiung Reading Festival" is organized with the core theme of "Reading Kaohsiung, Reading the World," expanding the connection between Kaohsiung and the world. The leading designer of the 2023 Kaohsiung Reading Festival, Godkidlla, is an important long-term partner, who received his art education in Kaohsiung. Whether it's the "seasickness" theme of the Kaohsiung Film Festival or the main imagery of flipping through book pages of this year's reading festival, Godkidlla possesses the extraordinary ability to craft a tapestry of diverse and vibrant landscapes across Kaohsiung. This year's Kaohsiung Reading Festival surpasses last year’s, holding over 100 activities and events. During the Festival, Korean sci-fi writer Kim Choyeop (金草葉) and more than 15 Kaohsiungers traveled around the city, including renowned literary writers Yang Jia-sian (楊佳嫻), Jiao Tong (焦桐), poet Li Chang-cing (李長青), Sao Sia (騷夏), and Huang Da-mi (黃大米). One week before the start of the event, food writers such as Jiao Tong (焦桐), Ling Yan (凌煙), Fong Jhongtian (馮忠恬), and Syu Jhong (徐仲) brought a series of Kaohsiung’s food and literature series to warm up readers and prepare readers’ taste buds of reading for this year’s feast of reading.

The main visual of "2023 Kaohsiung Reading Festival" is led by Godkidlla with its design concept rooted in the dynamic presentation of flipping through book pages, which extends to ships, airplanes, and the city, expressing the characteristics of Kaohsiung as an urban city with sea and air transportation, and symbolizing that Kaohsiung and the world are beginning to connect as people open books and read. The "2023 Kaohsiung Reading Festival" officially begins on November 11th, and registration for each event is open from October 30th. On the day of the opening ceremony, there will also be a special feature on the "Funnynoproblem" (面白大丈夫) masterpiece, which will bring an excellent stand-up comedy. Chen Jianwei and Shao Dalun, both Kaohsiung locals, will kick off the festival with wonderful Taiwanese songs; at night, "Men Envy Children" (小男孩樂團) will perform, too. Shinezone Theater (響座劇場) will have four different readings during the festival to satisfy the audio-visual experience of parents, children, and adults. A cordial invitation is extended to the public to share the biggest reading event in Kaohsiung. Please stay tuned to the official website for more information about these events.
